Motivate and Illustrate!

February 28, 2019

There is one month left for the All-Star contest!

Students are working hard to rack up their Time-on-Task and improve their mastery. The T-shirt Design portion of the contest gives students a fun and creative way to express themselves and a great way for teachers to keep students motivated!

Here are a couple of ideas to help your students tap into their creative genius.

One teacher shared that students who score 80% or more on a unit get to spend the rest of their class time working on their drawing for the All-Star contest!

Another teacher incorporated the theme, Dream Big, into her lesson for the day. In honor of President’s Day students completed a close reading using the Integrated Reading passage, Behind the President’s Desk. Then, each student received a blank drawing form and drew what they wanted to be when they grew up. Some want to be president! Some want to be lawyers like our eighth president, Martin Van Buren (I learned that in the reading passage, too)!

Don’t forget, the winning design will be featured on the back of the All-Star t-shirts this year! We’ll recognize the winning student in blogs, on social media, and more!  Imagine your student’s face when they find out their drawing will be worn by hundreds of students across the country. Here are last year’s winning drawings.

We’re rewarding All-Star teachers too! The teacher with the best strategy for motivating students will win a $100 Amazon gift card!
