Scantron Corporation expands capabilities to help districts and schools connect assessment results with instructional materials to support individualized student learning. Through alliances with Edgenuity, a leading provider of online and blended learning solutions including Edgenuity MyPathTM, and Curriculum Advantage, Inc., developer of Classworks®, Scantron Assessment Solutions® make it easy to identify specific student needs and locate related materials that support instructional adjustments.
Performance Series provides ongoing, relevant information in reading, language arts, mathematics, and life sciences. These fact-based insights help teachers more easily understand their students’ positions in the learning continuum and more quickly implement teaching plans to address difficulties. Achievement Series utilizes a host of delivery methods — mobile, online or paper — to administer tests and analyze reports that show performance at all levels within a district.
“We are excited to enable a more personalized approach to student learning and more targeted instructional planning for educators,” said Nikki Eatchel, Senior Vice President of Assessment at Scantron. “We have seen classrooms with a seven-year grade level range in student performance, making it challenging to truly differentiate instruction. This combined solution will help overcome the challenges associated with varying student abilities.”
Integration with Curriculum Advantage and Edgenuity MyPath enables Scantron to provide granular support, allowing for tightly targeted intervention on specific standards or concepts. Performance Series, combined with either or both integrations, delivers highly targeted views of student performance against these standards so educators can support students’ exact needs.
Classworks incorporates precise assessment data provided for individual students by Achievement Series and Performance Series to create customized assignments. Whether the goal of districts is to deliver instruction based on the standards a student is struggling to learn, or to address explicit skills a student lacks to be on pace from year-to-year, Classworks provides unique individualized plans to strengthen comprehension, grow skills and accelerate students to higher performance levels.
“We are excited to continue expanding Classworks’ ability to put a district’s assessment data to work in a way that builds teacher capacity and improves student achievement,” said Melissa Sinunu, President of Classworks. “Instead of asking teachers to find the resources needed to meet each student where they are, this integration automates the process for all students,” she explained.
“This integration was very quick and easy—only one day to set up and start using,” says Nikkia White, Support Teacher for Bessemer City Schools in Alabama. “To be able to put Performance Series scores and Classworks’ personalized instruction together is invaluable for supporting our documentation for writing standards-based Individual Education Plans.”
Edgenuity MyPath uses Performance Series results to help educators create individual learning paths, which are customized sequences of engaging, interactive lessons that focus on the skills and concepts that students are ready to learn, and align to specific challenging state standards. Educators import student math and reading scores from Scantron Performance Series into MyPath, which will then recommend Individual Learning Paths (ILPs) for students. These ILPs align to common core and state standards. They make use of a wide array of instructional material—videos, interactive tasks, practice activities, and comprehension reviews. As students work through their lessons, educators will receive dynamic, detailed reports to monitor progress.
“Edgenuity MyPath is designed to meet students at their current learning level and provide the specific support they need to catch up, keep up, or get ahead,” said Sari Factor, CEO of Edgenuity. “The integration of data from Scantron Performance Series into MyPath brings together best-in-class assessment and instruction to help schools and districts drive better student achievement.”
“Scantron is committed to developing opportunities that integrate assessment results with high quality instructional material,” said Marissa Larsen, Vice President, Education Portfolio, for Scantron. “Linking assessment results to instructional paths and materials enables educators to easily address individual, group, and classroom needs. These connections help districts and schools align with the Every Student Succeeds Act’s goal to fully prepare all students for success in college and careers using 21st century digital approaches.”
